Projects in Seattle that involve new or changed uses of property, construction or alteration of a building usually require a permit from Seattle's Department of Planning and Development. In this section of EveryBlock, we publish building permits recently issued by the department, so you can find out about major building projects near you.
Here, you'll find information about projects that range from simple electrical rewiring to complex matters involving city reviews of commercial and multifamily developments. Each report includes the location of the project, the date the permit was issued, a description, a permit number and information about the permit category and permit type. Both the permit category and permit type describe what type of work is being permitted.

What else should I know about the permitting process?
Repairs or alterations that cost $4,000 or less in a six-month period, and alterations that don't include the removal, reduction, alteration or relocation of any load-bearing support, usually don't require permits.
