The Southeast Seattle Reinvestment Area was created to promote community revitalization and investment, and to encourage development that supports business activity and provides employment opportunities and needed services to the residents of Southeast Seattle.

Urban villages are the locations where the city expected to see the greatest amount of growth and change. In exchange for neighborhoods willingness to work with growth targets, the neighborhoods received amenities such as improved streets and sidewalks and more open space.
