Police/Emergency Vehicle action
Does anyone know anything about the tons of fire trucks and cop cars? I pulled over 4 times on a drive from the U-District to Ballard for cops and fire engines all headed north.

Blanchet Stadium Lighting Update
As many of you already know, Bishop Blanchet High School has made a proposal to install lights and a sound system at its football stadium to be used apx. 38% of the nights in a year.
This will have severe adverse impacts on the entire neighborhood, especially including traffic, parking, exceedingly obtrusive light and glare, and noise amongst other issues. Below are links to presentations made about these issues.

1. Summary of some neighbor’s objections, analysis of Blanchet’s proposal, and outline of why its application for a permit should be denied by the city:
http://ourhood.info/document/document-sent-dpd-and-mayor-council-showing-blanchet-stadium-project-should-not-be-approved
2. Major outdoor lighting issues in residential neighborhoods are absolutely fundamental to quality of life and livability.
Although many separate neighborhoods have been impacted by those issues in the recent past, the city’s mayor, council, and DPD have failed heretofore in addressing those issues effectively.
Seattle tends to be proud of being on the forefront of livability issues, but on this issue fails miserably when compared to many other cities -- other cities are much more proactive about these issues.
A compendium of those issues was sent to the mayor, council, and DPD but no response has been received to date.
The compendium and its cover letter are found at:
http://ourhood.info/document/seattle-should-address-outdoor-lighting
3. In Seattle, many private schools and Seattle U all lack adequate sports and stadium facilities. We have sent a letter to those schools and the Archbishopric suggesting that a centralized sports facility be created at an appropriate location to resolve all of their needs rather than sporadic incremental projects at various of the schools that address only a fraction of their needs. The letter can be found at:

On May 1 the city responded to some of our comments by requesting the applicant (Blanchet and their consultants) to provide additional information.
We speculate that they will respond to the city within the next 2 weeks. After that, the city will either approve or reject the application (perhaps with conditions) or will ask the applicant for more information. After that, the issue will likely be appealed to the city’s hearing examiner by whichever of the two sides loses. We will endeavor to keep you informed. Please comment:
Comments by you about any of the above would be helpful within the next week.
You should send comments to is the Department of Planning & Development (see contact info below) AND MORE IMPORTANTLY, to the mayor and city council.*** ALL communications with the city must reference Master Use Project # 3012520 !!! ***
Here are the city’s guidelines for submitting comments:

Here is what other people have to say:
“This rootsy North Carolinian may be the most buzzed-about new songwriter in folkdom. He displays John Prine’s gift for stark little songs that tell big, complex stories, Guy Clark’s lean melodicism, Lyle Lovett’s wry mischief, and Bill Morrissey’s knack for the revealing image.” Scott Alarik in the Boston Globe
‘Sing Out!’ magazine says Byrd is, “a songwriter of exceptional talent… with the stark storytelling of the finest traditional balladeers.”
Tom Paxton said “What a treat to hear someone so deeply rooted in tradition, yet growing in his own beautiful way.”
“Jonathan Byrd is one of the Top 50 songwriters of the last 50 years.” – Rich Warren of WFTM in the Chicago Tribune.

Sherrie
Hi everyone!
I'm a native Seattlite and have always wanted to be part of this community - so I'm working on it every day until I succeed!
I am integrating into the Greenlake community and am looking for both a houseshare situation and a space to do massage - like a chiropractic office, acupunturist, another massage therapist to share office, etc. Does anyone know of a place I might check? Any help would be appreciated! (I really am a great massage therapist and will contribute to the community)
Thank You!

National Burger Month...
The hip & trendy side of me would scream
"bent burger" but the angioplasty in me also screams "Carl's Jr Bacon Double Western!". My sentimental side says Kidd Valley-Duh My college days recall Whataburger "fork'em Devils"....the Tacoma in me says 'not so fast stay true to your roots' little holland & frisco freeze. But the corporate-chain inside in me says "the Keg, are you nuts?!'" the pre-teen post parents divorce "get along with dad" phase says that cool burger place in saulsalito. The diet doc reminds me to plug the kangaroo brand pita patties at costco. The drive home from the Cuff after 2am says "yo number 2 @ wendys...before you pass out!" ugh...happy burger month.

Parkour is the art of overcoming obstacles effectively and swiftly using only your body. Fundamentals include running, jumping, crawling, and climbing, in order to pass over, under, around, and through obstacles in the everyday world. Parkour offers a full-body workout to people at any level of experience or fitness; it improves our ability to move, increases our confidence, and changes how we see the world.
Parkour Visions, a non-profit based in Seattle, has been spreading the benefits of effective parkour practice through teaching and community outreach since 2007. Parkour Visions reaches thousands of people per year through their parkour academy classes, outreach to at-risk youth, special events, and private parties. Parking on the Wrong Side of Street
Hi Neighbors,
I've noticed that many of my fellow street parking residents choose to park facing the wrong way. Although this is apparently not enforced heavily, such behavior violates the Seattle Municipal Code and is subject to a potential fine:

Be careful out there.

This law makes sense when there are 2 lanes of traffic, but on residential streets where you are allowed to park on both sides of the street resulting in effectively 1 lane of traffic, there is no difference in safety. As a year round daily bicycle commuter, I could care less which way you park. Incidentally, there was bike commuter who was going down our street pushing in all of the mirrors of the cars parked the wrong direction (not folding them in, pushing the mirror in the enclosure so they had to be readjusted). Most of us thought it was a car prowler marking cars until I caught him doing it and confronted him. He has since stopped.

Citywide staff pick
From Solarize Green Lake?:
"Hi folks, my wife and I missed the recently advertised meeting in Phinney Ridge about organizing a Solar Northwest initiative and bringing easy Solar within reach. Did anyone from green lake attend that meeting ? We'd love to know what the next steps might be. Also, has anyone already gone through the process of installing solar at their green lake home? Seems like there are quite a few permitting hurdles to overcome? Thanks! Robbie"

I concur with Daisydoodle and Juan --- I'm a huge fan of Rain City Burgers' veggie burger....special sauce, yum. Nice staff, too.
I also like the veggie burgers at Kidd Valley, just south of Green Lake. It's a similar burger to the Rain City one: sloppy, saucy, etc.
Long drive but Hudson's in Coeur d'Alene is by far the NW's best...
