  • KapKa Cooperative School reviewed by a parent

My daughter and son both attend Kapka. Our experience of the school has been very positive: we see our kids engaged in learning, sometimes even without knowing they are learning. Kids of all grades get along and enjoy hanging out with each other. Even when there are no active interactions, there is a level of care for all kids in the vicinity in a way that always surprises me a little bit. The teachers are great, each offers a unique way of interacting with the small groups they teach. They really bring in their own personalities, and also treat each child as a unique personality. This is clear during parent/teacher conferences: they will often have insights into our kids behaviours and challenges that are immediately recognizable for us as the parents. As the school is a co-op, there is a strong element of parental involvement. This usually works out great: parents know what is going on, kids are very at ease with having "other" parents helping them and/or telling them what to do. The flip-side of this is that organization and communication is not always the best (but improving!), and you need to expect to play an active role in the school's activities. The parent-crowd is a nice and diverse bunch, and most of them show you their authentic selves, which is something I really enjoy. All in all, I can heartily recommend Kapka. There is a lot of heart and energy that goes into giving our kids the best start in life.

  • KapKa Cooperative School reviewed by a parent

The two strengths that set KapKa apart are the teachers and the parent community. Parents are required to participate in the classroom and to attend one parent meeting a month - there is no way that your child can cruise through a grade without you noticing or not knowing what is going on. The parents know the kids and so do the teachers. It's a tight-night, very fun and social group! It's been a very positive experience for my entire family.

The couple's restaurants generally occupy a spectrum of Northwest and Italian. When I bring up some people's skepticism about this pivot to Mexican food, both Stowells laugh.
