Our household is fairly secular, so I was initially apprehensive about the idea of sending our children to a religious day school. But after researching and touring many of the local independent schools, we decided that SJCS stood out as the best overall elementary school in our area. And in hindsight, we are very pleased with our decision. SJCS provides a nurturing environment and a high-quality education. The school also does a nice job of incorporating Jewish values into the curriculum, which compliments the progressive values we emphasize at home. Overall, we feel lucky to have our children at SJCS and it is clear that they will be well-prepared for middle school. We also love being part of the wonderful community at SJCS.

We seriously considered public school, as well as other independent schools, but SJCS provides just what we want from an elementary school. The school really emphasizes social-emotional learning, and the teachers work hard to foster an environment where the students feel comfortable being themselves. This means that the students actually love being at school! Meanwhile, the curriculum has been carefully crafted to challenge the children and ensure that they will be well prepared for middle school. We also appreciate how Judaism is blended in with the general studies curriculum, and we love that the children begin learning Hebrew in kindergarten. Another perk is that SJCS offers hot lunches for a reasonable cost, which cuts down on the chore of packing lunches every day. Overall, we really love SJCS and it has been a great fit for our entire family!

I have two very different kids and they have both thrived as SJCS. One kid responded strongly to the music and judaics curriculum, the other loved the science and language arts program. Both kids love the immersive learning units, for example building a town full of characters to study Colonial Boston. As a family, we really appreciate the strong after-school BASE program. Our kids have taken Kung Fu, cooking, acting, art, dance, and many other amazing classes. We also use the after-BASE bus to get the kids home to the Montlake Neighborhood in the afternoons.

SJCS is amazing and gives a warm and loving surrounding to the students. Not only because of its modest size, but mainly because of the unique approach of the teachers and staff, children here are shown a strong example about how to be better people and become positive contributors to their communities and families.
