  • Seattle Jewish Community School reviewed by a parent

We are at the end of our second year at SJCS, and overall it has been a great social and learning environment for my children. I chose SJCS for two reasons: first, it has the capacity to support & challenge my two very different learners; and second, the school community has a very big heart that is apparent in everything they do. I have not been disappointed! My younger daughter is a gifted learner who questions everything and needs to be heard, and she is thriving at this school. My older daughter started in 2nd grade and needed some support to read and do math at grade level, and with some extra attention from the learning specialist she is now successfully reading well above grade level and doing math that is at least at grade level. I am so impressed by how well the teachers and staff consider individual needs of different students at SJCS. And the Judaics curriculum has been one of the highlights for my children- we are an interfaith, not very observant family, and the way Judaics is taught has been both rigorous and relevant to my children. SJCS provides a Jewish education that encourages critical thinking and questioning- my younger daughter in particular thinks deeply about her Jewish identity and what it really means, and her teachers have all encouraged her to explore and express her ideas on Judaism. I am glad that we found this wonderful school!
