Barnacle Bar Small Plates At the Walrus and the Carpenter and the Whale Wins, Renee Erickson has showcased two distinct gifts: sourcing and presenting perfect seafood, and spinning a magical sense of place. Both are in full bloom at Barnacle, her skinny 20-seater with the copper counter, the Euro bar, and the chalkboard menu-heavy on the fishies.

  • St. Alphonsus School reviewed by a parent

The teachers and the community of the school are outstanding. Our kids are happy, confident young people and are now thriving both academically and socially. I definitely recommend you check it out.

  • St. Alphonsus School reviewed by a parent

The school is in decline due to extremely poor leadership on the part of the principal and an unwillingness to do anything on the part of the diocese. There are teachers there who care about the kids, but success starts at the top. The principal is more concerned with generating revenue than quality education - books are old and out dated, technology isn't meaningfully included in the curriculum, teaching methods are antiquated, policies of exclusion are promoted. To make matters worse, he appears to not have a filter, alternately insulting parents and kids then saying "but we love you." Trying to communicate with him as an adult is strange, awkward and more often than not an exercise in stomaching the inappropriate.

  • St. Alphonsus School reviewed by a parent

Our child has had such a rough experience with bullying at this school and the administration and teachers are totally unwilling to engage to address it. It might be ok for kids who have been together here from the beginning and grown up together, but we would strongly caution anyone from transferring in from another school. Unfortunately, it's just not a very welcoming environment for new families.
