St. Alphonsus School (5816 15th Ave NW) Comment
We like this school and after having had a student in the local public school are happy to be here. Perhaps the Colorado public schools are great but we did not find Seattle schools to be great. They are overcrowded and my child spent too much time preparing for and taking standardized tests. We feel the academics are quite good here. We like that St Al's has a room that is only a science lab and gets used by 4 the grade and up as well as science club. Even having a playground with equipment all the children can use is better than our public school. We have had a very good experience so far but I do wish the administrator was friendlier.

Based our families experience with private catholic schools, I would rate this school as average. Our family does not feel that the school provides a better quality education than the surrounding public schools. Our former school, located in Colorado, had an excellent science and math program, which is lacking at Saint Alphonsus. We are concerned that our child is now behind his peers in our home state. We have found the community to be welcoming, teachers are approachable. Building is very old and there are often issues that need to be addressed with plumbing and heat. If you are looking for a catholic education, you will find value here. If you are looking for a strong academics program, you are better off at the public school.
The preview concert will be held on Tuesday, February 6, at the Earl Kelly Center for Performing Arts at Ballard High School (1418 NW 65th St). The performance begins at 7:30 p.m.

The school is okay. That's all. We're transferring our child to the local public school, which is highly rated in our area. If you're Catholic you'll find value in the religious education, but STEM is lacking. School is old, no real technology to speak of. It's silly to pay $9,000 per year, when you can get a better education for free through Seattle Public.
