Art at Spin

Spin (Spyridon Nicon) curates a rotating collection of local art on his barber shop walls (4501 Interlake Ave N). Given how often swaps in a new artist and how often I get my hair cut, it’s almost a guarantee that there will be someone new and interesting on the walls each time I head over […]

Poetic Wallingford

April is National Poetry Month, so in honor of such, I took a pedal around to the three spots where you can consistently find public poetry in our neighborhood. The Poetry Bench at Eastern Ave N at N 40th St had a piece by Leigh Hunt (1784 – 1859) out: Abou Ben Adhem Abou Ben […]

4:20 Party on 4/20

This Friday is 4/20, and thus a stoner holiday. Wikipedia explains the origin of this odd toking tradition: In 1971, Steve Capper, Dave Reddix, Jeffrey Noel, Larry Schwartz, and Mark Gravich, five high school students in San Rafael, California, calling themselves the Waldos because “their chosen hang-out spot was a wall outside the school”, used […]

  • B F Day Elementary School reviewed by a parent

When our daughter turned 5, we got scared from the 6/10 score that BFDay had and we decided to enroll her in a private school for her K year and planning to keep her there for the following elementary years. After the Kindergarten year in this "famous", popular, expensive and hard to get in private school, we decided that it was time for our daughter to have something more. And it was NOT a financial decision. We decided to go to BF Day. Oh well, what a change! From the amazing principal, to the outstanding teachers, the fabulous art and music teachers, the caring staff. The PTSA is constantly and deeply involved. I would not pick another school. She loves to go to school and her progresses are unbelievable. This school is a gem!
