Cayton Corner’s path from empty lot to Seattle park a long and winding road

The path to building a park in the City of Seattle takes years and years and thousands and thousands of dollars. So, CHS got a little excited when we saw work underway at the corner of 19th Ave and Madison. The excitement was a little premature. Cayton Corner will be a nicer open space this summer with a safer, less trip-y sidewalk but the money needed to complete the full vision for the park is still an open question.

Capitol Hill Pets | Joni — the photographer’s dog — on 12th Ave

CHS caught up with Jess (human) and little Joni Mitchell (canine) on 12th Ave. Joni, a terrier mix, was fresh from a springtime grooming at Rex. Joni is a 9-year-old Texas transplant, coming along with Jess in 2010. Getting on in years, Joni’s high jumps and land speed records are lower and slower, but she has the uncanny ability to make people want to pet her, and she loves it. Currently living on Beacon Hill, Joni’s trips to Capitol Hill are a treat, literally. Joni is also my dog, the Corvette behind Joni, though, is not.

CHS Pics | A Pike/Pine Record Store Day line

Somehow, someway, Record Store Day still means something on Capitol Hill. With so much brick and mortar retail fading away and streaming music services dominating the industry, it has got to be at least a little surprising to see record stores — shops that sell physical, hard format musical recordings — still spinning in 2018.

ST3 Level 1 Alternatives: Downtown

If you could get to 6th, however, and push for a freeway lid between Madison and Spring to improve the walk shed, would that be an almost acceptable compromise?

    ST3 Level 1 Alternatives: Downtown
Last week we described the latest concepts for light rail in West Seattle and Ballard. Today, we'll talk about the path through greater Downtown, from Lower Queen Anne to Chinatown. In a deviation from the follow-the-monorail theme of other segments, the representative alignment skirts the edges of Belltown to provide a direct line to South Lake Union.

Now, travel up into the hills, up the Snoqualmie or the Skykomish rivers maybe, and wend your way back into a cold deep valley.
